Cash & Coin Handling for Entertainment Venues in Dubai: Cinemas, Theme Parks & Arcades
Cinemas, theme parks, arcades, and family entertainment centers have a cash mix unlike normal retail. Ticket booths and F&B outlets take a steady flow of notes, while game floors and attractions can generate a lot of coins or tokens. Some venues have both, run by the same back office. That means two counting jobs at once: fast note counting at the box office, and bulk coin handling on the game floor.
Dubai has the full range, from multiplex chains to giant indoor parks, and the same operators run venues in Abu Dhabi and across the UAE. Here is a real example from one of our clients.
Ten years of reliable counting at IMG Worlds of Adventure
IMG Worlds of Adventure, part of the Ilyas & Mustafa Galadari group, is one of the largest indoor theme parks in the world. For the indoor restaurants we supplied around 60 Cassida UNO Plus infrared detectors, trained the staff on spotting counterfeit notes, and even provided IR mapping for each restaurant so fake notes are caught reliably.
For the ticketing counters and back office we supplied 15 Cassida Zeus two-pocket sorters to handle the high daily cash volume. Their main concern was reliability - and since the park opened they have used the same machines for almost ten years, with regular maintenance and software updates from us throughout.
Two cash streams, two problems
Box office and F&B - notes. A steady flow of note transactions that need fast, accurate counting at shift change and closing, especially at weekend and holiday peaks.
Game floor - coins and tokens. Machines collect large volumes of small coins or tokens that need counting per machine; tracking each one shows when a game is underperforming.
One back office, both jobs. The venue has to consolidate notes and coins into one documented total, so it needs the right machine for each stream, not one machine forced to do both.
Counterfeit protection at the box office
High weekend volume and busy queues are exactly when a fake note slips through. Checking by eye does not catch good counterfeits under pressure. A detector or a counter with built-in UV, magnetic, and infrared checks screens every note as it is taken. At IMG, the UNO Plus detectors and per-restaurant IR mapping are what keep fakes out of the F&B tills.
The setup we recommend for an entertainment venue
Detect at F&B counters, sort notes fast at the box office, and count coins in bulk on the game floor.
At F&B and concession counters - Cassida UNO Plus: a compact counterfeit detector that checks each note as it is taken, so a fake is caught at the counter.
At the box office and back office - Cassida Zeus: a two-pocket sorter that counts and sorts high daily note volume quickly, the machine IMG has relied on for nearly ten years.
For game-floor coins and tokens - Cassida Coinmax: it counts and sorts large coin volumes fast, so game-floor collections are not a manual counting burden.
Practical points
Track coin counts per machine. A game earning noticeably less than similar ones nearby often signals a fault worth checking.
Reliability matters more than features here. A venue running seven days a week needs machines that keep working; regular maintenance and software updates keep them accurate.
All Cassida machines read the new polymer AED notes. With the Central Bank moving AED notes to polymer, every Cassida machine reads all versions, old and new - no false rejects at a busy box office.
Clean the machines often. High-volume, high-traffic cash is dirty; dust and grime build up inside and cause miscounts and jams, so the machines need regular cleaning, which our service center handles.
Frequently asked questions
Do entertainment venues really need both a note counter and a coin counter? If the venue has a game floor as well as ticket and F&B counters, yes - the two cash streams are different jobs and each needs the right machine.
How do we keep counterfeits out of busy F&B tills? Put a detector at each counter so every note is checked as it is taken. At IMG, UNO Plus detectors plus per-restaurant IR mapping do exactly this.
Will the machines last in a seven-day operation? Yes, with regular service. IMG has run the same Cassida machines for nearly ten years, with maintenance and software updates from us.
Why entertainment venues switch to Cassida
Many venues first buy machines on the open market or from an online marketplace, then have no one to call when one fails during a peak weekend. They switch to Cassida because we run the region’s only specialized service center for cash machines, in Al Quoz, Dubai, and we keep the machines maintained and updated - which is how IMG has kept the same fleet running for a decade.
