Cash Counting for Wholesale Markets in Dubai: High-Volume Notes & Coins
Wholesale trading floors move cash at a scale that is easy to underestimate. Deals are frequent and often large, many traders deal in cash and coins only, and the counting has to be fast and accurate so a busy floor is not held up. Some traders take huge volumes of coins on top of notes.
Dubai’s wholesale hubs, like the Al Aweer market, run at real scale, and the same trade happens across the UAE. Here is a real example from one of our clients.
A compact, high-volume coin setup for Al Tammam
Al Tammam Foodstuff Trading supplies food and beverage items and deals only in cash and coins, usually taking a very high volume of coins along with notes.
Because they count around 7,000 to 10,000 coins a day, they wanted a compact solution that would not take up much space. We supplied a Cassida Coinmax, which lets them attach bags directly to the sorted pockets. They also wanted a compact, heavy-duty two-pocket note sorter, so we supplied a Cassida Artemis.
What wholesale trading needs from a counter
Speed above all. Frequent, large cash counts cannot hold up the floor, so the machine has to be fast and accurate.
Serious coin volume. Some traders take thousands of coins a day; a high-volume coin counter is essential, not optional.
Compact and heavy-duty. Space on a trading floor is tight, so the machine must be small but built for constant use.
A VAT note for wholesale traders
One detail worth knowing: not everything a wholesaler sells is taxed the same way. Many general goods carry 5% VAT, while certain basic food items and other categories can be treated differently. That does not change how you count cash, but it does change what each day’s total should reconcile to, so make sure the counting total lines up with correctly taxed invoices. Confirm the current VAT treatment for your goods with a qualified tax advisor.
The setup we recommend for a wholesale trader
Count notes fast, and handle high coin volume in a compact machine.
For high coin volume - Cassida Coinmax: it counts and sorts large coin volumes and lets you attach bags straight to the sorted pockets - the machine Al Tammam runs for 7,000 to 10,000 coins a day.
For notes - Cassida Artemis: a compact, heavy-duty two-pocket sorter with serial-number recognition for a clean record.
For AED note counting - Cassida Xpecto Lite: a professional mixed-value counter that counts and values mixed AED denominations with advanced counterfeit detection, ideal for wholesale traders handling regular high-volume AED cash.
Practical points
Do not underestimate coin volume. Thousands of coins a day need a proper counter; hand-sorting is a hidden daily cost.
Compact does not mean light-duty. On a trading floor you need a small machine that can still run all day - the Coinmax and Artemis are built for it.
All Cassida machines read the new polymer AED notes. As the Central Bank rolls out polymer AED notes, every Cassida machine reads all versions, old and new, so no real note is rejected on the floor.
Clean the machines often. Wholesale cash and coins are very dirty and high-volume; grime builds up fast inside and causes miscounts and jams, so regular cleaning is essential - our service center handles it.
Frequently asked questions
What is the biggest cash-handling challenge on a wholesale floor? Volume - both notes and coins - at speed. The machine has to keep up without miscounting, and coins in particular need a dedicated high-volume counter.
Can a coin counter really handle thousands of coins a day? Yes. The Cassida Coinmax counts and sorts large volumes and lets you bag straight from the sorted pockets, which is why Al Tammam uses it for up to 10,000 coins a day.
Is a compact machine strong enough for constant use? Yes. The Coinmax and Artemis are compact but heavy-duty, built for the constant, high-volume counting a trading floor needs.
Why wholesale traders switch to Cassida
Many traders first buy a counter on the open market or from an online marketplace, then have no one to call when it jams under heavy daily volume. They switch to Cassida because we run the region’s only specialized service center for cash machines, in Al Quoz, Dubai, so a machine is cleaned, fixed, or replaced fast and the floor keeps moving.
